Upon his arrival in the romantic heart of Venice, the young Austrian Julius Grünwald met and fell in love with the daughter of a certain Mr. Bauer, a respected director at the Hotel de la Ville. Shortly thereupon, Mr. Grünwald asked for the young lady’s hand in marriage. Their deep bond of love soon gave birth to a successful business partnership, which culminated in the opening of the prestigious BAUER-Grünwald Hotel.
After the purchase of the property, the resourceful Mr. Bennati, a successful Ligurian shipbuilder with a keen sense for real estate and a passion for the hospitality industry, infused new life into the BAUER Hotel. The restoration of the original Gothic-byzantine façade, the structural expansion on Campo San Moisè and, above all, the opening of the 7th floor terrace “Settimo Cielo” (Seventh Heaven), which remains the highest terrace in the city, are all undertakings and features, which make the BAUER the most exclusive and modern hotel in Venice.
Women play an important role in Venice, particularly in art and commerce. In 1999, Arnaldo Bennati's granddaughter started a massive renovation of the building, from engineering and plant engineering to decoration and furnishing accessories, the first step towards a new stylistic identity.
A need was felt to push BAUER’s development to the top by splitting it into two “personalities” while preserving the strong history of its tradition. Born of this idea were BAUER Hotel, with an urban, contemporary, dynamic and smart character and BAUER Palazzo, sophisticated and mysterious, the perfect surroundings in which to immerse oneself for an authentic Venetian experience.
In May 2020 SIGNA HOLDING, the largest Austrian private real estate company, acquires the HOTEL BAUER PALAZZO, an emblem of excellence through its history. Today its guests, as members of a prestigious family, can enjoy exclusive privileges and experience the authentic Venetian lifestyle.
